Winmau Re-Signs Three WDDA Stars

Just weeks before the longest running darts major – the 45th Winmau World Masters - the world’s leading darts brand has announced new sponsorship deals with World Disability Darts Association (WDDA) stars Ricky Chilton, Phil Lees and Vinnie D’hondt.

All three players will be taking to the stage at Bridlington Spa between October 4th and 7th to compete for a title they have all either won or come close to winning in recent years.

Belgium’s Vincent D’hondt will be aiming at a hat trick of Winmau World Masters titles, having won the longest running darts major in 2015 and 2016. He enters the competition on the back of his third consecutive Belgium National Championships triumph.

The factory safety adviser from Passendale, Belgium uses 24g Winmau Ted Hankey darts and has been a Team Winmau player since 2016.  This year he has also added the Dutch Open Championship, Hague Disability Darts Invitational, Wolverhampton Open and Belgium Masters to his impressive list of achievements.

Denton, Manchester-based Phil Lees, will be looking to go one better in the Winmau World Masters having finished runner-up in 2014 and 2017, as well as runner-up in the British Disability Darts Association’s (BDDA) Open Classic in 2017.

Completing Team Winmau’s WDDA superstar trio is former Cornwall fisherman, Ricky Chilton, who won the first ever Winmau WDDA World Masters in 2014 – a title he has on his radar again for this year. Currently ranked number one in the BDDA table, a position he has held three times in the last four years, Ricky also plays for Cornwall County.

Ricky has also been selected as captain of the Welsh national team at next year’s inaugural WDDA Winmau World Cup which will take place in Ostend, Belgium February 22nd to 24th.

“Ricky, Vinnie and Phil all prove that disability doesn’t have to be a barrier to top class darts,” says Ian Flack, Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director. “They are incredibly talented darts players and I’m delighted they have all agreed to sign for us for a further two years. They are tremendous ambassadors for us and for the sport of darts generally. I’m sure they’ll all be contesting the final stages of the Winmau World Masters next month.”
