Daryl Gurney kept his Premier League play-off hopes alive with a 7-7 draw with Gerwyn Price last night in Sheffield.
Superchin hit an impressive 77.78% on his doubles but after nine legs, he found himself trailing 6-3 to the Welshman. However, Gurney fought back impressively to 6-6 before Price secured a point on D20 to move 7-6 ahead.
Gurney rallied well once again and took out 64 in the fourteenth leg to secure a valuable point which now sees him level on points with 4th place Mensur Suljovic, after the Austrian lost to table-topper Rob Cross.
Cross averaged an impressive 102.66 with seven maximums to take a strong 8-4 win over Suljovic. The Englishman leads reigning champion Michael van Gerwen by a point in the table going into the last night of the league stage.
MvG was at his rampant best as he comfortable defeated Peter Wright 8-1 with a 110.85 average to keep the pressure on Cross. Peter Wright could do nothing to stop the World no.1’s onslaught, averaging 102.29 himself and rattling in four maximums.
The other match-up of the night saw James Wade and Michael Smith draw 7-7. Both players exchanged legs in the early exchanges before James Wade hit a huge 161 checkout to secure a point at 7-5. Despite already being out of the running for a play-off spot, Bully Boy battled back to win two legs on the bounce and steal the draw.
Next Thursday is the final night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, with four players still in the hunt to claim the final two semi-final places.
