Hull Arena: September 1st to 4th
MARTIN ADAMS will start his 2011 Winmau World Masters campaign to win a record four Men’s Masters titles in consecutive years as the No.1 Seed at Hull Arena.
He’s in the form of his life as three times and reigning Men’s World Masters Champion and three times and reigning Lakeside World Professional Darts Champion and is delighted that ESPN will be screening all the action live and exclusively from Friday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 4th.
“ESPN are as excited and enthusiastic about the World Masters as all the players”, says Martin. “This is their very first foray into darts and they have chosen one of the BDO’s biggest and most prestigious tournaments in the World Masters.
“This is a first for them, and it is also a first for Hull Arena as the host venue for the Masters. We are all looking forward to a great tournament in Hull and personally I would love to make it four World Masters on the trot – but there is very strong competition from players representing some 30 countries.
“Whatever the case, I can promise everyone in and around Hull, plus our new ESPN viewers, an exciting and competitive World Masters. All the players want to see Hull Arena packed to capacity!”
The Seeded players are:
1 MARTIN ADAMS
2 DEAN WINSTANLEY

Yorkshire is well represented in the Men’s Seeds, with Dean Winstanley (Doncaster), Scott Waites (Halifax) and John Boy Walton (Sheffield). Dean was a Quarter Finalist last year and so was Scott, who was runner-up in 2008.
John has the best Masters record, having won the title in 2000 and reaching two Semi-Finals and two Quarter Finals. His greatest moment came in 2007 when he became the first (and only) player to record a perfect 9-dart 501 leg in World Masters history.
Doncaster’s Karen Lawman is flying the Yorkshire flag for the ladies and has a unique World Masters story:
She won the Women’s Masters title in 1998 as Karen Smith and subsequently changed to her maiden name of Lawman to honour a promise made to her late father. As Karen Smith she was a Semi-Finalist in 1999, runner-up in 2002 and Semi-Finalist again in 2004. As Karen Lawman she was a Quarter-Finalist in 2005, runner-up in 2007 and Quarter-Finalist again last year.
The Winmau World Masters, in association with EY Events and John Smith’s, will be played at Hull Arena from Thursday, September 1st to Sunday, September 4th, with live and exclusive ESPN coverage from Friday to Sunday.
