Darts Stars Line up for the Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open in August

16 May, 2014

The second annual Winmau BDO Wolverhampton Open is already attracting interest from around the UK and further afield. With a £3,000 prize fund (£1,000 to the champion) and a place in the 2014 Winmau World Masters and 2015 Lakeside World Championship Play-offs on offer for the winner, this year’s tournament is sure to be hotly contested by the world’s best players and the greatest local talent.

The tournament will take place at The Winmau Dart Centre in the Wolverhampton Sports Arena on Saturday 23rd August 2014.

Ian Flack, Sales and Marketing Director of Winmau said: “Last year^s inaugural Open proved a huge success and some of the world’s finest players are already making enquiries.  We^re expecting a big turnout and are introducing some dramatic changes, with a larger stage setup, one of the country^s top referees and more room for spectators. The Wolverhampton Sports Arena is fast becoming one of the country’s finest darts venues, and we thank Dharam and his team for all their hard work and support".

Dharam Jagpal of the Wolverhampton Sports Arena added: “The event has proven a big hit partly because the Wolverhampton Sports Arena has a dedicated Winmau darts centre with 18 boards, which allows contestants a lot of opportunity for warm ups - a feature that many venues are unable to compete with. We can’t thank Winmau enough for all their help. Having the world’s leading darts brand on board has really taken our dreams and made them a reality”.

One of the first players to sign up is double World Champion Ted Hankey, who is fighting back to fitness after a stroke.  He is playing catch-up on the ranking points having returned to the BDO in January, but he is now ranked 90 in the world and is hopeful of a Lakeside place next January.

To register to play in this event, please send a cheque or postal order for £10 along with your name, postal address and email address to The Competition Secretary, British Darts Organisation, Unit 4, Glan-y-Llyn Industrial Estate, Taff’s Well, Cardiff, CF15 7JD. Please include a stamped addressed envelope if you require confirmation of your entry. The closing date for entries is Monday 18th August 2014. British Darts Organisation rules apply.
