Winmau Renews Support Of Ladies Darts Organisation

22 May, 2018

Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, announced today that it is to continue its support of the Ladies Darts Organisation (LDO) – an agreement that will include exclusive sponsorship of the seventh Winmau Ladies Classic next month.

The LDO was formed in 2012 by Julie Lambie, who has 90 county caps for Lincolnshire, and has a community of around 3,500 players across the world. Affiliated to both the British Darts Organisation (BDO) and World Darts Federation (WDF), it was created to promote the ladies game after the BBC announced plans to cut back its coverage at the Lakeside World Championships.

“We started a petition to try and get the BBC to change its mind,” says Lambie. “Two and a half thousand signatures later, the BBC showed the ladies semi-final and final. Realising the ladies game needed on-going publicity, we formed the LDO later the same year.”

The Winmau Ladies Classic tournament followed soon after and was one of the first stand-alone ladies darts majors. Previous winners include defending champion, Anastasia Dobromyslova, Lisa Ashton and 10-times ladies World Champion and Team Winmau player, Tina Gulliver, MBE. The LDO also plays a pivotal role in the Swedish and Turkish Ladies Classics.

This year’s Winmau Ladies Classic will take place on June 24th at The Blues Club, Gainsborough and is expected to see a field of around 50 players compete.

“Ladies darts is very much a part of the sport’s global popularity,” says Ian Flack, Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director. “Julie and the LDO do a fantastic job promoting ladies darts, sharing information and driving a real sense of community amongst lady players around the world. The Winmau Ladies Classic broke new ground as a ranking event that is not part of a men’s tournament. Winmau is delighted to be associated with the LDO and play a small part in its continued success.”

Julie Lambie, adds: “Having the support of the most famous  name in darts has been huge boost to the LDO’s aspirations. But it is more than a name on our website. Winmau is a fantastic source of all-round support and advice. I’m delighted the LDO can continue its relationship with the company.”

Further details with regard to the LDO (and tournament entry details) can be found via their website: http://www.ladiesdartsorganisation.com/

You can also follow the LDO on Twitter (@LadiesDartsOrg) and Facebook(@LadiesDartsOrganisation).

Winmau produces LDO flights and shafts, which are available from all good retailers.
