LISA ASHTON CLAIMS LDO WINMAU LADIES CLASSIC CROWN FOR FOURTH TIME

29 June, 2018

Four-time ladies world champion, Lisa Ashton, has picked up her fourth Ladies Darts Organisation (LDO) Classic title following a 5-1 win over Isle of Wight’s Brenda Dyer at The Blues Club in Gainsborough last weekend.

‘The Lancashire Rose’ was never in trouble as she progressed through the early rounds, beating Wales’s Nikki Goldsmith and number eight seed, Casey Gallagher. Yorkshire’s Beau Greaves provided a sterner test in the semi-final, claiming the opening leg with a 112 checkout. However, Ashton soon re-grouped and, with an 86.79 average, came out on top four legs to two.

Earlier in the day, last year’s singles champion, Russian Anastasia Dobromyslova and partner Vicky Pruim from Sweden won the pairs title, beating the English pairing of Tricia Wright and Maria O’Brien.

“The Winmau LDO Ladies Classic is in its seventh year,” says tournament organiser and LDO founder, Julie Lambie. “We’ve renewed our sponsorship agreement with Winmau and the event, as well as the LDO, is going from strength to strength.
“We had 71 entries this year from all over the world, including two ladies from Kazakhstan. Many of the world’s top players took part and the standard of play was outstanding.”

Ian Flack, Winmau’s sales director adds: “The success of the LDO and the Classic is testament to Julie’s determination and hard work and the undeniable quality and popularity of ladies darts. I’m delighted we were able to support the tournament as part of our sponsorship.”
