Two-time Czech national champion, František Humpula, has joined Team Winmau on a three-year sponsorship deal, the world’s leading darts brand announced today.
Twenty-four year old Humpula, who lives in Krnov in The Czech Republic, only took up the steeltip game three years ago having played softip almost exclusively. In that time, in addition to his two national titles, he has represented his country in the 2017 PDC World Cup of Darts alongside Karel Sedláček and won through to the finals of this year’s PDC Q-School.
As a Team Winmau player, he will promote the company’s brand at events across Europe and participate in product development programmes.
A former welder and metal worker, Humpula has now committed to playing darts full time and competes on the PDC Challenge Tour. His focus for the rest of the year is to qualify for the World Youth Championship and the PDC World Championships.
“The level of competition is already high and getting higher every day,” says Humpula. “I know that to succeed I will need to work hard and be lucky. Having the support and backing of Winmau is a tremendous boost and gives me the inspiration I need to pursue my dream of competing at the very highest level of the sport.”
Ian Flack, Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, adds: “František is typical of the kind of talent that is emerging across Europe. He’s a relative newcomer to the game and has already met with tremendous success – back-to-back national titles is an incredible feat. I’m delighted we have signed him, and we look forward to being a part of his journey.”
