Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, has announced its support of the newly formed Darts Association of Thailand (DAT) with a three-year sponsorship.
The fledgling DAT has been awarded interim membership of the World Darts Federation (WDF) and hopes for full membership in the near future.
With a commitment to improve, promote and grow the sport from grass roots to elite status in Thailand, the DAT plans to introduce a ranking system for players and establish a flagship open event. It also plans to introduce an academy to encourage and develop younger players.
The DAT will also support and develop men’s, women’s and youth national teams to compete on the international stage.
“Darts is extremely popular in Thailand and we want to put in place an infrastructure that will channel the undoubted enthusiasm and abilities of players of all ages in the country,” says Sedtawut Thinyakorn, Vice President of the DAT. “Winmau’s support is a tremendous boost for us and I am sure that with their help, our players will succeed at the highest levels in the sport.”
Ian Flack, Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, added: “Without question, there are some very good players in Thailand, as witnessed at the PDC World Cup of Darts. With the structure the DAT is putting in place their players will be able to realise their full potential on the global stage. The DAT is committed to developing and nurturing the sport from the grass roots to the professional level which is very much aligned to our own philosophy. There are exciting times ahead for all Thai players!”
