Saturday 21st December saw the very first Level1 ABC Darts Leadership course delivered at Burnley Football club. The innovative leadership course is delivered by the Room 180 Academy and supported by Winmau, GoDartsPro and Dartboard Maths. The 3 hour CPD course is in it’s pilot phase and Burnley FC in the community are the first football club that have contributing to the course content until it goes fully live in 2025. Phase 1 of the course is for football clubs, phase 2 for schools and educational institutions and the final phase for parents and community development. The leadership course includes all the essential content to run a safe, effective and fun darts education session. With over a decade of developing darts in education, course creator and deliverer, Gary Horsley, comments: “the pilot course was a great success, and I look forward to where the Burnley Bullseye scheme goes to – the future is looking bright for the community in Burnley. The staff were very enthusiastic and coped well with all aspects of the course – it is a pleasure to be able to share my experience from working in education for over 30 years and the decade of experience gained working with the PDC, JDC, Winmau and other darts industry partners. Lewis Hickie – Burnley FC in the community comments: “we really enjoyed the course, thank you for travelling up North Gary, the course was brilliant – informative but also great fun. Our staff enjoyed all aspects, and we are looking forward to starting the community courses for Burnley Bullseye in early January. We are ordering our Winmau kit now and will be ready to go to start making a positive impact in our local community”. Kim Snooks – Burnley FC in the community– comments: “the course really opened up our eyes to the potential of darts education and we look forward to developing the ideas into educational content as we build our links with our community partners. Maths is the obvious development but we will also be making significant impact on life skills and development of key skills like team work, communication and how to cope with winning and losing games. Darts is a great way to develop such skills as it is all inclusive and all ability levels can play the sport”. The leadership course is supported by GoDartsPro and the innovative on-line package run by Anders provides a great link for the future development of community darts and we are excited for further developments in 2025. The leadership course is practical in nature but features a strong educational link and it is great that the newly launched DartBoard Maths scheme developed by Devon Petersen is on board to offer a key link for junior maths development.
