Michael Unterbuchner became the final BDO player remaining in the bwin Grand Slam of Darts, causing one of the upsets of this year’s tournament against James Wade.
Unterbuchner claimed a 10-6 victory over the European Champion Wade, hitting 3 maximums and 37% checkout. The German lead 4-1 at the opening break before Wade rallied to trail just 1 leg behind at 5-4. Michael kicked on again however to seal the win and will now face Gary Anderson on Saturday. Anderson comfortably defeated Wesley Harms 10-2, smashing in six 180s in the process.
Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith battled out arguably the best match of the tournament so far. Reigning champion MvG booked his place into the quarters with a ruthless 108.32 average as he won the encounter 10-8. There was a total of 17 180s hit between both men but in the end it was MvG’s 50% checkout percentage that proved the key. Jonny Clayton will meet MvG for the second time in this tournament after the Welshman demolished Krzysztof Ratajski 10-3.
