Gurney Moves into Grand Prix Quarter-finals

03 October, 2018

Reigning World Grand Prix Champion Daryl Gurney had to stave off a Dutch fight-back from Ron Meulenkamp to win 3-2 in his second round match.

Superchin breezed into a 2-0 set lead before Meulenkamp fought back to level at 2-2. The Northern Irishman rallied with his usual grit to win 3 consecutive legs and take the deciding set 3-0.

Gary Anderson now awaits Gurney in the quarter-final after the Scot whitewashed young Dutch star Jeffrey de Zwaan 3-0 in a repeat of this year’s World Matchplay semi-final.

World number one Michael van Gerwen also putting in a convincing performance as he lost just 1 leg to Darren Webster in his 3-0 victory. MvG’s 104 finish in the opening leg set the tone for the rest of the match as Webster couldn’t keep pace with him.

It was also a 3-0 win for England’s Dave Chisnall over Raymond van Barneveld. Chisnall’s typical scoring power was in full display as he smashed in five 180s over a lacklustre Barney.
