Mitchell Mounts Comeback over Mandigers

07 October, 2018

Winmau’s Scott Mitchell rallied from 2 sets down to defeat Willem Mandigers 3-2 in an epic comeback at 2018 Winmau World Masters.

Scotty Dog found himself trailing at 2 sets down as Mandigers rocketed ahead. The former Lakeside World Champion showed his grit and battled back to take it all the way to a deciding set. Mandigers nerves showed and Mitchell capitalised to set-up a quarter final clash with David Copley.

Scott Waites also picked up victory with a 3-1 win over Dave Parletti. The 2011 World Master was tied up in a tough encounter with Parletti but 154 and 130 finishes secure him sets three and four to win the clash.

It was relatively smooth-sailing for Glen Durrant as he defeated Gary Stone 3-0 with a strong 97.18 average. The reigning Lakeside World Champion with face his fellow thrower from the North East, Gary Robson, as big Robbo defeated Mario Vandenbogaerde 3-1.

Elsewhere there was a 101.44 losing average for Michael Unterbuchner as Wayne Warren whitewashed the German 3-0. David Copley toppled Eddie Mordica 3-1 and Adam Smith-Neale closed out the evening in a real classic against Mark McGeeney. Smith Neale triumphed 3-2 to now face Warren in today's final sessions.

In the Ladies there was a shock opening stage result as reigning champion Lorraine Winstanley was dumped out 4-0 by Casey Gallagher. The 2013 Winmau World Masters Girls Champ was un-phased facing Winstanley, who herself never got into a rhythm.

Deta Hedman edged a fanatastic encounter with Japan’s Mikuru Suzuki in a contest that went right down to a deciding leg. The Heart of Darts’ experience on the stage showed as she kept her cool to win 4-3.

Ladies Lakeside World Champion Lisa Ashton comfortably moved her way into the Ladies semi-finals with a 4-1 win over Corrine Hammond. Elsewhere Anastasia Dobromyslova picked up the 4-1 victory in a scrappy clash with Sue Gulliver.
