With 5 weeks now played in the 2023 Premier League Darts, reigning champion Michael van Gerwen comes into Night 6 in Liverpool 6 points clear at the top of the table. Mighty Mike has won the last 2 Premier League nights in Dublin and Exeter, beating Welsh pair Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in the 2 Finals.
The former 3-time World Champion leads the way in the league format, with World Number 1 Michael Smith and former UK Open champion Nathan Aspinall the Dutchman’s closest challengers.
Van Gerwen will face a rematch with Clayton in the second Quarter Final of the night, with the World No 3 beating the Ferret 6-3 in last week’s Final.
The Welshman was the only player in last year’s competition to finish higher than the Green Machine in the league table, with the player from Pontyberem earning 40 points after winning 4 nights out of a possible 16.
The Ferret beat Joe Cullen to win the Night in Liverpool 12 months ago, in what was the second week of competition after Night 1 in Cardiff. Clayton has made it to the Semi Finals in his last three Premier League nights, reaching the Final for the first-time last week after beating Peter Wright and Dimitri van den Bergh.
Snakebite will open the Night against World No 4 Gerwyn Price in a repeat of the Nordic Darts Masters Final. The colourful Scot won in Copenhagen back in January, and will be hoping to do the same this week as the need for points grows bigger by the week.
He faces the Iceman who sits fourth in the Premier League table, with the player from Markham winning the 1 night so far in this year’s competition. The 38-year-old claimed success on his homecoming at the Cardiff International Arena, beating Chris Dobey, reigning champion Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall in the Final, with a sell-out crowd watching on in the Welsh capital.
Price lost to Mighty Mike in the Quarter Finals a week ago and will be wary of players like Dimitri van den Bergh, Jonny Clayton, and Chris Dobey, as he looks to win to keep hold of his place in the Play Offs.
The tungsten drama starts from 7pm live on Sky Sports, with Gerwyn Price versus Peter Wright the first match up on Night 6 at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool.
