The Winmau European Open Bringing Back the Pure Spirit of Darts

07 July, 2021

If you like to tuck into a good competition, then the feast that MAD (Modern Amateur Darts) are bringing to the table will certainly tickle your taste buds.

The Winmau European Amateur Open is exactly that. No need to worry about coming up against the likes of MVG or Gerwyn Price - as long as you are not one of the 128 PDC tour card holders, you’re eligible to enter.

Better still, qualification isn't a prerequisite this year so you don’t even have to order a starter - just become a MAD Member, enter, and show up with your darts.

As part of their ‘Big Weekend’, at Bunn Leisure, Selsey, MAD will stage what is believed to be the largest event of its type in the world. With a huge prize pot of £30,000 on offer, it’s dangling quite the carrot.

On Friday 10th December, the inaugural tournament will be the curtain raiser to what should be a memorable weekend of action.

As well as being crowned the very first Winmau European Open Amateur Champion and pocketing £10k, the winner will automatically be entered into the fascinating ‘MAD Golden Gauntlet’.

‘What is that?’, you may ask. Well, it’s another exciting new concept in which 30 invited players consisting of MAD Championship Title holders, wild-cards and even one lucky punter in the crowd compete for £10,000.00

As a similar concept to World Wrestling Entertainment’s 'Royal Rumble', participants are each given a number, then the winner of the previous match stays on and retains the throw. The last person standing after all 30 Players have competed pockets the cash, so drawing number thirty would be a huge advantage

MAD are offering some fantastic incentives to their members. From the sixteen Super Regions, the top ranked player in each will be offered free accommodation for ‘The Big Weekend’. In addition, the four runners up receive a Free Entry to the European Open in the form of a Player Pass.

In all, that’s 80 prizes via the MAD rankings, equal to over £7000 as an added bonus for their affiliation.

It should be a terrific three days of action which also features  JDC, Ladies, Singles. and Pairs events, as well as a MODUS exhibition on Saturday evening.

Entry to this feast of darts MAD Weekend Player Passes will be available from www.maddarts.tv from 01/08/21, and JDC Weekend Player Passes, covering all 3 days, will be available from www.juniordarts.com also from 01/08/21
