Reigning World Grand Prix champion Daryl Gurney produced a lethal finishing display to defeat John Henderson in his first round fixture.
The Northern Irish ace missed just three darts at a finishing double to knock out Scotland’s John Henderson in a repeat of last year’s semi-final. Superchin will now face Ron Meulenkamp in the second round after the Dutchman upset Joe Cullen with a 2-1 win.
Raymond van Barneveld survived an early scare as he defeated “Rapid” Ricky Evans 2-1 whilst his World Cup team-mate Michael van Gerwen whitewashed debutant Steve Lennon. MvG avoided a second consecutive opening round defeat in emphatic fashion as the World number one missed just 1 dart at a finishing double.
Jeffrey de Zwaan was a fourth Dutchman to progress into the second round as he brushed aside Kim Huybrechts 2-0 in an impressive scoring display. The young man from the Netherlands smashed in four maximums as he posted a 97.87 winning average.
Darren Webster and Dave Chisnall both also enjoyed 2-0 wins over Stephen Bunting and Max Hopp respectively. Closing the night, recently crowned Champions League of Darts winner Gary Anderson comfortably defeated Welsh debutant Jonny Clayton 2-0 to close the night.
