Weston Homes Community Stadium, Colchester, played host to the 2014 Winmau Essex Darts Open. 252 players battled it out on the day in the senior competition where Braintree’s Rhys Hayden beat Colchester’s Kevin Edwards 4-2 in a superb all-Essex final to win his first Essex Open at the age of 19. The losing semi-finalists were Basildon-based Dave Solly and Hertfordshire’s Ian Clarkson.
The Essex Youth Open was won by Staffordshire’s Daniel Williams who beat Suffolk’s Lewis Cracknell 3-0 with a fantastic 31.31 average. The losing semi-finalists were Essex’s Jamie Peetoom and Suffolk’s Kyle Bloomfield, who all showed the seniors that darts future is in good hands.
Colchester United’s John Shultz was over the moon with the turn out and the running of a very successful tournament.
