How to set up your Blade X Dartboard
Setting up your Blade X dartboard correctly is the key to getting the best performance, durability, and playing experience from day one. Whether you’re installing your first dartboard at home or upgrading your setup, this guide will walk you through everything you need to know — from mounting and regulation measurements to essential accessories and ongoing maintenance.
Follow our step-by-step instructions to ensure your Blade X is perfectly aligned, protected, and ready for play, so you can focus on what matters most: throwing better darts and enjoying the game.
Choosing the ideal location for your Dartboard
Before mounting your Blade X, take a moment to select the right spot, it makes a big difference to both safety and how much you’ll enjoy playing.
Choose a solid mounting surface A firm wall provides better stability and helps absorb impact noise, giving you a more professional and enjoyable playing experience.
Allow enough room to play comfortably Make sure you have clear space for both throwing and movement. A minimum area of around 2.5 × 3.5 metres ensures a natural throwing stance and freedom to retrieve darts without obstruction.
Can’t drill into your wall to mount directly? If wall mounting isn’t possible, a dartboard stand offers a practical and reliable alternative. Designed for stability and easy setup, a stand allows you to position your Blade X at regulation height without drilling, making it ideal for rentals, shared spaces, or temporary setups. It’s a flexible solution that lets you play anywhere while still enjoying an authentic darting experience.
Setting the Official Dartboard Height and Distance
Correct height and throwing distance are essential for fair play and consistent performance.
Dartboard height The centre of the bullseye should be positioned 1.73 metres (5 feet 8 inches) from the floor. Measure from the finished floor surface straight up to the middle of the bull to ensure accuracy.
Throwing distance The official throwing distance is 2.37 metres (7 feet 9¼ inches), measured horizontally from the face of the dartboard to the front edge of the throw line (oche).
Diagonal measurement If measuring horizontally isn’t practical, you can also use the official diagonal distance. Measure 2.93 metres (9 feet 7½ inches) from the centre of the bullseye down to the front edge of the throw line (oche). This method is commonly used and ensures your setup remains fully regulation when floor or wall conditions make horizontal measuring difficult.
Getting it spot on Use a tape measure for precise setup and double-check that the board is level once mounted. Many players choose a dart mat or laser oche to mark the distance clearly and keep measurements consistent every time they play.
Hanging Your Blade X Dartboard on the Wall
Once you’ve chosen the right location and confirmed your measurements, you’re ready to mount your Blade X securely.
Mounting & Fitting Accessories
As shown in the images and text, use the appropriate sections of the box to fit:
• Rota lock levelling system
• Thread-lock centre screw
• Spirit level
• Magnetic bracket
1. Mark the fixing point Measure 1.73 metres from the floor and mark the wall at the height of the bullseye. This mark will indicate where the centre of the dartboard should sit once mounted.
2. Install the wall bracket Position the supplied wall bracket so the dartboard will hang with the bullseye aligned to your height mark. Use a spirit level to ensure the bracket is perfectly straight, then mark the drill holes.
3. Drill and fix the bracket Drill the holes using the correct drill bit for your wall type. Insert wall plugs if required, then secure the bracket firmly with the supplied screws so it sits flush against the wall.
4. Hang the dartboard Insert the Centre screw into the pre-drilled steel thread at the rear of the Blade X, as well as the three Rota Locks. Hang the board onto the wall bracket and allow it to settle into place. This prevents movement, reduces vibration, and keeps the board stable during play.
5. Level and adjust Check that the number 20 sits vertically at the top of the board. Adjust the Rota Locks by rotating clockwise to level and secure your Dartboard to the wall.
6. Add magnetic accessory brackets (optional) If required, fit magnetic accessory brackets around the edge of your dartboard, to align with where the magnets are on your light or autoscoring accessory.
Taking the time to mount your Blade X correctly ensures a solid, quiet setup and makes regular board rotation quick and easy.
Dartboard Care & Maintenance
Your Blade X dartboard is crafted from premium-grade Kenyan sisal, expertly processed to deliver exceptional durability, self-healing performance, and consistent scoring. Like all impact sports equipment, regular use will naturally cause wear — but with the right care, you can significantly extend the life and performance of your dartboard.
How Long Does a Dartboard Last?
There’s no single lifespan for a dartboard, as wear is influenced by how it’s used over time. Several key factors play a role in determining how long your dartboard will continue to perform at its best:
How often you play The more frequently a dartboard is used, the more impact it absorbs. Regular daily play will naturally cause faster wear than occasional use.
Rough points which are damaged, grooved or rough textured place more stress on the sisal fibres with every throw, and can even pull fibres as they are removed from the board. Smooth, well-maintained steel points penetrate cleanly and allow the fibres to recover, helping the board maintain its structure and appearance for longer.
Rotating your Dartboard
Regular rotation spreads impact across the entire playing surface, helping to prevent premature wear in high-use segments and extending the board’s usable life.
We recommend rotating your dartboard at regular intervals.
Important to note: Wear to the bullseye and outer bull is unavoidable, as these areas cannot be rotated. Bull-focused games may cause the centre of the board to show wear sooner, this is completely normal.
Position & Storage
For best results, position and store your dartboard in a cool, dry location.
While Winmau dartboards are tested to perform across a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels, excessive moisture or prolonged damp conditions can reduce fibre performance over time.
Keep the Board Clean
· Lightly brush the surface occasionally to remove loose fibres
· Do not use water, sprays, or cleaning products
