Bobby George Marathon raised over £208,000

The 2011 Prize Giving Presentation, hosted by darts legend Bobby George brought together prize winning players at the impressive “George Hall”, Essex on Sunday 26th February 2012 to celebrate their achievements in the 2011 Bobby George Charity Darts Marathon and receive a raft of exciting prizes including fine dining, tickets for Eurostar, Adventure Days and many, many more.

Over 170 players competed in the 2011 event raising over £8,500 during September 2011 bringing the total raised by darts players over five events to £208,000 all in support of disabled athletes in sport.

Nolan’s Freehouse, Vauxhall, London raised an outstanding £2,583, winning for the 5th time the Highest Team Sponsorship category, their overall total from 5 events being over £14,500.  Winning the 2011 Highest Individual Sponsorship category raising £1,725.00, Johnny Parfitt  said “The first thing I knew about winning a prize was when someone rang me and said you’ve got to come along to the prize giving presentation.  I was surprised as I only had about a week to sort out the Marathon.  It’s great –  I’ve been involved every year”.

Highest Team Score winners, “North London Cowboys” from The Sporting Green Pub in Enfield, scored an impressive 180,304, taking home the coveted Bobby George Perpetual Trophy and scooped runner up in the Highest Team Sponsorship, raising, £1,674 as well as numerous individual categories. 

Prizes were also awarded to the RAFA Club, Gosport and Brewers Arms, Burgess Hill, West Sussex.

Bobby George said “It was a privilege to be involved again and it was lovely to see a lot of the old faces raising the much needed funds to support disabled athletes.  I must also say how professional Tracey and her team at the UK Sports Association are and as always a great pleasure to work with”.

Without such generosity our work to support athletes with learning disability simply couldn’t continue. Thanks too go to Bobby George for so generously giving his time to support our event and of course to our donors who provided some great prizes to reward all the hard work.”  

The Marathon held between 16th-23rd September 2011 in pubs, clubs and other local venues across the UK was based on sponsored players competing for 4 consecutive hours in a variety of categories.  

Money raised from the event will support the work of the event organisers, the UK Sports Association for People with Learning Disability, who promote, facilitate and support people with learning disability across the UK to train, compete and excel in sport and KEEN London (Charity No. 1124915) who give children and young adults with special needs the chance to enjoy sport and creative activities in a safe, supported and fun environment. Their combined work helps athletes at different levels to build confidence, develop day to day skills that others take for granted, have quality opportunities and succeed in the sport or activity of their choice.
