Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, has announced the extension of its relationship with "Little” Richard Ashdown, one of the biggest names in the world of darts, for a further three years.
Ashdown (who is affectionately known as "Little” Richard) was signed by Winmau in 2013 shortly after his appointment by the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to act as their official Master of Ceremonies and host of its major tournaments, including the Lakeside World Championships and the world’s oldest major tournament – the Winmau World Masters. By renewing his relationship with Winmau, Ashdown will continue to act as a company ambassador and wear the company’s logo.
Ashdown, who has acted as MC to darts legend Bobby George since 2002 and has worked with a host of top players including current World Champions Scott Waites and Trina Gulliver MBE, is also recognised as darts’ premier referee and official.
When he is not in front of the camera as the face of events across the world (including England Darts Organisation tournaments and every World Darts Federation World and Europe Cup since 2008), Ashdown is respected as one of the game’s top spotters and statisticians for the BDO and PDC.
His skills are in demand across the world and Richard has worked with television and internet production companies including BBC Sport, ITV Sport, Eurosport and Matchroom Sport.
"Thanks to my role as the BDO and WDF Master of Ceremonies and my work with the PDC broadcasters, darts has taken me all over the world,” says Ashdown. "Everywhere I go the Winmau brand is recognised as the biggest name in the game and I am proud to continue my association with the company.”
Winmau’s Sales and Marketing Director, Ian Flack, added: "I am delighted that Richard has agreed to extend his relationship with us. Not only is he recognised globally as a major personality in the sport, he has a reputation for impeccable professionalism and for being one of the friendliest people on the circuit.”
