Winmau Central Darts Academy

Winmau Central Darts Academy
College hits the bullseye with Winmau and the new Darts Academy.
Winmau, the world’s leading darts brand, is delighted to announce an exciting and radical new partnership with Central College Nottingham. This relationship will see the two organisations provide a first-class facility for professional darts performance and educational opportunities that will be accessible to the community of Nottingham and beyond.

The centre, based in Clifton, Nottingham, will be known as the Winmau Central Darts Academy. It features a purpose-built room with premium quality Winmau products (including the class-leading Blade 4 Dual Core dartboard). It will also provide a unique opportunity to study the game of darts. Students will have the chance to gain a unique insight into the business, manufacturing, technology, marketing, media and sports promotion processes behind the multi-million pound darts industry, which is now the UK’s second-most popular televised sport. Students will be able to enjoy their curriculum with underpinning subjects such as sports psychology, match analysis and nutrition along with creative initiatives to develop functional skills in English and Maths based around the sport of darts.

With over 65 years of manufacturing and marketing experience, Winmau – the world’s only fully-integrated darts company - will supply business and sporting expertise across a range of areas and will help provide access to the manufacturing and promotional processes behind its innovative products, as well as providing links to its partner the British Darts Organisation, whose "Darts For All” ethos sees it promote darts at all levels from the grass roots through to the televised Lakeside World Championships and Winmau World Masters.

Aspiring darts champions of the future will benefit from the experience and guidance from Winmau-sponsored former Champions League of Darts winner Colin Osborne, who will become a Senior Patron and Head Coach of the Darts Academy. Winmau’s other sponsored players (including current leading stars Simon Whitlock, Paul Nicholson, Scott Waites, Ted Hankey and nine-time Women’s World Champion Trina Gulliver) have also pledged their support to the initiative where possible.

After winning the chance to work with Central College Nottingham as part of a competitive tendering process (which saw the world’s leading manufacturers bidding for the chance to be part of this ground-breaking initiative), Winmau’s Head of Marketing, Simon Hall, was delighted to have overseen the winning bid saying: "After meeting Gary Horsley and his team at Central College, it was clear that this scheme is one of the most exciting initiatives that the sport of darts has seen for some time. The fact that this process will transcend the game and take the sport into a formal educational sphere and develop community links with darts as a focus is a ground-breaking moment for the game and one which Winmau is both delighted and honoured to be playing a lead part in”.
