Premier League Night Five: Cardiff

Littler Lights Up Cardiff to Claim Night Five

A night shaped by precision, timing and high-level finishing. Luke Littler returned to winning ways on the BetMGM Premier League stage with a composed Night Five victory in Cardiff.

Arriving in the Welsh capital in seventh place after a slow start to the campaign, the world number one required a response. Victories over Josh Rock, Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton in front of a sell-out Utilita Arena provided exactly that, reigniting his challenge and securing the £10,000 nightly bonus.

The evening opened with a high-quality quarter-final against Rock.

The Northern Irishman produced a strong display, averaging 103.72, but Littler controlled the key moments to secure a 6–4 victory and progress to the semi-finals.

The World Champion then delivered one of the most authoritative performances of the night against Price.

Facing the Welshman on home soil, Littler averaged above 111 and completed a measured 6–3 victory with a clinical 170 checkout, the first of two maximum finishes he would produce across the evening.

By the time the final arrived, his rhythm was established.

Quarter-Finals

Luke Humphries 6–1 Michael van Gerwen
Jonny Clayton 6–4 Gian van Veen
Gerwyn Price 6–5 Stephen Bunting
Luke Littler 6–4 Josh Rock

Humphries opened the night with a decisive performance, reeling off five consecutive legs to defeat seven-time Premier League champion Van Gerwen 6–1.

Clayton followed with a controlled 6–4 win over Van Veen, while Price edged past Night Four winner Bunting in a deciding-leg contest, surviving a match dart to advance to the semi-finals.

Semi-Finals

Jonny Clayton 6–4 Luke Humphries
Luke Littler 6–3 Gerwyn Price

Clayton’s route to the final continued his consistent run of form.

The Welshman edged past Van Veen 6–4 in the quarter-finals before repeating the scoreline against Humphries in the semi-finals. Efficient finishing in key legs allowed the league leader to capitalise on missed opportunities and reach his second nightly final in three weeks.

Littler, meanwhile, produced a high-quality display against Price. Sustained scoring pressure and controlled finishing shaped the contest, with the decisive 170 checkout securing a 6–3 victory.

The Final

Luke Littler 6–4 Jonny Clayton

The final produced a measured contest between the league leader and the reigning World Champion.

Early exchanges saw both players trade breaks of throw before Clayton produced a precise 86 checkout, leaving 46 after nine darts in leg four to threaten a 3–1 lead.

Littler responded immediately.

A clinical 170 checkout restored parity and maintained the high standard of the match. In leg seven he came within millimetres of a nine-darter, wiring double 15 before Clayton answered with an excellent 11-dart hold to edge ahead at 4–3.

Momentum shifted once more.

Littler produced a composed 13-dart hold before converting a precise 80 checkout to regain control. From there he remained composed under pressure, pinning tops to complete a 6–4 victory and secure five valuable league points.

League Picture

Clayton’s run to the final extends his lead at the top of the table to five points after five nights of competition.

Behind him the table remains tightly contested. Price, Littler and Van Veen sit level on nine points, while Van Gerwen remains within reach in fifth place.
